Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (IATA: BLR) is the busiest airport in India and the tenth busiest in the world, handling over 50 million passengers annually. The airport is located in the eastern part of Bengaluru, on an area of 1,000 acres. It was originally built in 1984 with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore and has since been upgraded several times. The latest expansion project, which commenced in 2015 and is expected to be completed by 2019, will add an additional 3 million sq ft to the airport’s current capacity of 15 million sq ft.
